A Nightmare on Elm Street Remake Trailer

Monday, September 28th, 2009

So here we have it. Freddy is the last of the remakes from all the major 80’s horror icons. Yes, yes, I know I know….another remake. Will they ever stop with these? Doubtful.
Anyway, they’ve released a trailer for the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake. I like the first shots of the parents chasing down Freddy into the abandoned warehouse. I’m also digging the shots of Freddy’s silhoutte in the boiler room. But other than that, I’m not too impressed. The shot in the bathtub is identical to Craven’s original. Are we going to have another remake that carbon copies every scene? With Jackie Earle Haley there is some potential. But I’ll tell you one thing…I’m definitely not digging Freddy’s burnt face. He looks like a cross between Cronenberg’s mask from “Nightbreed” and a cute doll a child might have.

Chupacabra found?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Apparently some taxidermist from Texas has found the mysterious Chupacabra….

“Jerry Ayer, owner of Blanco Taxidermy School, has possession of the mythical beast’s body. According to CNN, the animal was discovered by one of Ayer’s students. The student had “placed poison…to catch an unidentified animal that had gotten into a family member’s barn.” Little did the student know the animal in question was (maybe) the chupacabra.”

Now, I don’t know if this is legit or not. It basically looks like a really messed up hairless dog to me. But if it is real, scientists should take DNA from that thing and start cloning the hell out of it. Maybe I can have a pet Chupacabra by Christmas! It’d be great to have a couple “Chupas” race across my lawn scaring the piss out of my neighbors.

Here is a link to the video, Chupacabra Video.

Michael Jackson R.I.P.

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

After I had heard about  Jackson’s passing I was in complete shock. I mean, who saw this coming? I sure didn’t. I don’t normally listen to the radio, but on the way home from work today, I listened to every station for more info about Michael Jackson and his death. It was true, he had died earlier today. All the stations were playing his music and it was really weird listening to his music while knowing he had died.

Sure MJ was a bit “wacko” and did some crazy ass things throughout his career. But I just have to point out that Thriller is hands down the greatest music video ever made. It’s a brilliant short horror film. I have the album on vinyl and I’ll be crankin’ it up all weekend long.

Thriller

“Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead today after paramedics found him in a coma at his Bel-Air mansion, city and law enforcement sources told The Times. Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told The Times that paramedics responded to a 911 call from the home. When they arrived, Jackson was not breathing. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda said.” Read the rest of the article at the Los Angeles Times.

Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors Photos

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Well, we made it through another convention and it was a blast! This June, Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors was held at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC and it did not disappoint. We met a ton of cool people and unloaded a healthy amount of horror t-shirts. The I Brake For Zombie stickers were also a hit. We showcased some brand new t-shirt designs and we received a lot of positive feedback from them. Those new designs will be on the Headstone City site soon, so sit tight. Thanks for the support and to all those who came out to visit us. We hope to see you again next year.

I’ve posted some pics below, enjoy!

Robie Jr. Radio Shack Toy Robot

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

This one is for all you 80’s toy robot junkies out there. A friend of mine pulled his Robie Jr. out of storage, took some snapshots and sent them to me.

This remote controlled robot circa 1986 was manufactured by Tomy and sold by Radio Shack. Robie Jr. had a microphone on both sides of his head which enabled him to hear the ultrasonic sound sent from the remote controller. By using the remote, any child could easily navigate Robie Jr. throughout his or her house. In addition to motoring around on the ground Tomy was kind enough to install some phrases into Robie Jr.’s CPU. He spoke phrases such as “Let’s Go”, “Hello”, “I’m Robie Jr.”, “Oops” and “Excuse Me”.

Obviously the tray Robie Jr. holds is to carry assorted items. The amount of things he can carry is endless. Robie Jr. could bring you a tray full of M&M’s or even the medication you use to keep the voices out of your head. I suppose he could also bring you another role of toilet paper when you run out.

Sure, he’s not as cool as R2-D2, but he’s a hell of a lot better than that dipshit Johnny 5.

HBO Introduction from 1983

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Remember this HBO introduction from way back in the 80’s? This was and is by far the greatest HBO lead-in ever made. Sitting down, getting ready to watch a flick on your very own Home Box Office and seeing this intro. would send chills down your spine. It was pure gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest spun heaven metal, or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now…

This version has the family and suburban opening. They eventually stopped showing the ‘burbs opening and cut straight to the spaceship shaped like a giant HBO. It’s a shame they did that, seeing that they spent so much time creating the miniatures. Probably ate up too much time and took time away from showing movies.
But listen to that kick ass beat! I should put this song on my ipod. The music during the entire sequence is top notch. It builds, builds and builds until the camera makes its way into space and we are overloaded with a musical score of magnificent magnitude. I’d love to hire a 40-piece orchestra and have them play this in my backyard. People would come from miles to see that!
So crank it up to 11 and enjoy this flashback to 1983!

Weird Photo of the Day

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

At first glance, this photo seems fairly normal. Doctor, nurse and patient. But at closer inspection we can see how weird it really is. Check out the look on the nurse’s face. She is downright nightmarish! And what’s with her neck? After they took the photo, I think her head began to rotate.
