Robie Jr. Radio Shack Toy Robot

This one is for all you 80’s toy robot junkies out there. A friend of mine pulled his Robie Jr. out of storage, took some snapshots and sent them to me.

This remote controlled robot circa 1986 was manufactured by Tomy and sold by Radio Shack. Robie Jr. had a microphone on both sides of his head which enabled him to hear the ultrasonic sound sent from the remote controller. By using the remote, any child could easily navigate Robie Jr. throughout his or her house. In addition to motoring around on the ground Tomy was kind enough to install some phrases into Robie Jr.’s CPU. He spoke phrases such as “Let’s Go”, “Hello”, “I’m Robie Jr.”, “Oops” and “Excuse Me”.

Obviously the tray Robie Jr. holds is to carry assorted items. The amount of things he can carry is endless. Robie Jr. could bring you a tray full of M&M’s or even the medication you use to keep the voices out of your head. I suppose he could also bring you another role of toilet paper when you run out.

Sure, he’s not as cool as R2-D2, but he’s a hell of a lot better than that dipshit Johnny 5.

My brother used to have this little robot guy that would eat pennies ‘n shit. I was obsessed and would make him take it out all the time when i was little. This guy reminds me of it. He also used to chase me with a Godzilla toy that i was terrified of.

I bought this little fella for my son, we had a lot of fun with him especially at halloween. We would record spookie sounds and let em fly when someone came past our apartment! What a hoot!

Have you seen the episode of “It’s always sunny in philadelphia” where Robie Jr. makes an appearance? I think it’s the Xmas episode. It’s hilarious!
